School District of Manatee County

Parents should always have a role in their children’s education – make your voice heard!

On November 8, 2022, registered voters in the School District of Manatee County who live in School Board District 2 will vote to choose their representative on the Board. District 2 residents will choose between Cindy Spray and Harold Byrd Jr.

District 2 CANDIDATES

Cindy Spray is an author and foster care advocate. She is the Vice President of the Manatee County Foster & Adoptive Parent Association and a Board Member of the Guardian Angels of Southwest Florida.

 

Spray is a registered Republican and has voted in Republican primary elections.

 

Spray’s priorities include ensuring that curriculum is focused on academics, protecting parental rights, and improved accountability to taxpayers.

 

Spray does not support gender and sexuality curriculum or discussions in school.

 

Spray has served as the Secretary of the Republican Party of Manatee County.

 

Spray touts a number of endorsements including Governor Ron DeSantis and the Manatee County Sheriff’s office.

Harold Byrd Jr. is a former Bradenton City Council Member. He has been involved with many community groups including the United Way of Manatee County, Big Brothers / Big Sisters, and St. Paul Baptist Church.


Byrd is a registered Democrat and has voted in many Democratic primary elections. He also attended the 2022 Democratic Party Annual Gala.


Byrd promotes “Black Lives Matter” and the “Resist” movement on his Twitter account.


Byrd says he is running as a registered Democrat, despite School Board positions being nonpartisan. 


Byrd says his priorities are “quality education, fiscal responsibility, school safety, and ensuring the rights of all are respected.”
